FILTRACIONES

A compositional process with Maricarmen Martínez (2024-in progress)
«We do not replicate the cavernous sound, but rather inhabit its time.
We carry the cave wherever we go, moving through an exercise of shared silence, in the droplet that falls within us all.»

ABOUT THE WORK
This work emerges from the artist's sensory and emotional experience upon visiting the Cueva del Agua, a natural space of profound acoustic and symbolic resonance. The piece explores the physical and metaphorical states of the cave—its seepages, humidity, silences, and echoes—in order to translate the experience of its essence into inhabiting other spaces, inviting the viewer to dwell within their own "inner cave": that intimate space of memory, deep and dark, where imperceptible resonances of existence remain unheard beneath the daily noise of the World.

The performance focuses on the inaudible—both unheard and unprecedented; an unusual, subtle murmur, as a political and poetic gesture that we tend to ignore (such as environmental suffering or the suppression of the voices of rural communities and peoples); transformed into bodily movement and vocal extension, whose gestures oscillate between a very slow, delicate caress, sometimes imperceptible, visceral from the gut, and even bestial (as in butoh), always contained within an active silence that breathes and expresses itself from the cellular, from the molecular.

ABOUT THE PROCESS
The initial exploration involved the artist's sound and sensory recording in the Cueva del Agua, focusing on its acoustic eco-biodiversity (dripping, reverberations, humidity). In 2024, work began in TALLER ABIERTO [compositional processes], which facilitates a collaborative development environment through improvisational residencies and critical dialogues, reflective exercises guided by the memory of the natural space—the cave—as the fundamental and poetic material for the piece's development. The process currently remains open.
