Constelación ORCA
This work commemorates the 30th anniversary of Café Jazzorca, the iconic free jazz and experimental improvisation venue in Mexico City, founded by the visionary Germán Bringas in 1993. I envisioned composing new pieces for small ensembles that reflect the rich diversity of Creative Music, free improvisation, composition, and the elements of indeterminacy inspired by 20th-century contemporary composers who in one way or another influenced as well as were influenced by the great African American Creative Music.
I developed what I term "Piezas-Mapas" (map-pieces), which are simple inductive graphic scores designed for collective structural improvisation. These pieces were tailored for local musicians, drawing on materials from our recorded performances to create an evolving language of "piezas-mapas to explore with different ensemble configurations a long 18 performances of music during one year long."
The project is visualized as a constellation of 37 new pieces, structured into three iterations, each consisting of three sessions with two sets per session, featuring four "piezas-mapas" each night—totaling 12 new works per iteration. The uniqueness of my approach lies in crafting scores that require only a brief sight-reading explanation before each set, with no prior rehearsal. This fosters a dynamic tension and intention essential for "playing it right." While perfection was elusive, the resulting music was strikingly fresh, intricate, and spontaneous, creating a truly magical experience for the audience.
POLLOCK
tambores pintores
I create POLLOCK tambores pintores as a composition research performance improvisation project. Conceived as a trilogy for extended/prepared drum set-percussion ensemble nonet. The work is comprised by three Compositional Matrices on which I research specific elements contained in my percussive phenomenology study work:
Matrix I Boson
for gongs & extended large drum set percussion ensemble
for gongs & extended large drum set percussion ensemble
Matrix II Pollockianas
Matrix III Time Sculptor/Noise Speculations
An eukinetic study research in percussive motion performance

Una Semana de Bondad
This project is a special reunion to create a piece inspired by and developed on Max Ernst "A Week of Kindness" . The work is conceived as an ongoing work in process –sessions– , so for every performance I write a new score based on the evolution of the precedent and so on, always evolving; there may be also change in musicians, readers, dancers, actors, etc. The session I share here is session IV.
