STATEMENT

Iam a Rhythm Collector,
My drumming—the pulse of existence,
A reminder that we gather
The beats of time as we move,
Self-percussing through life,
Weaving the living tapestry

Of reality in motion.

Milo is an innovative inter–multi–trans–disciplinary artist native from San Luis Potosí (Huasteco-Pame), based in Mexico City since 2017. He specializes  in creating 'rhythmatologic experiences' that foster compositional processes and living evolving personal growth.  As a life long percussivist  and creative researcher performer Milo´s artistic interest is to guide individuals in awakening to new states of thought and sensory perception through percussive exploration and rhythm sentience.
Throughout his career, he has had unique professional opportunities performing and collaborating with highly esteemed artists. His involvement in the arts extends to active collaborations, art and performance residencies, private teaching, giving lectures and leading workshops, composing, creating ensemble projects and regular appearances at contemporary music festivals and concert series. Some of his many collaborations include  Karl Berger, Andrew Cyrille, Rashied Ali, Robyn Schulkowsky, Christian Wolf, Reggie Workman, Thollem McDonnas, Jonathan Golove, John Bacon, Ratzo Harris, Carmina Escobar, Jerónimo Naranjo, ROVA Sax Quartet, Ramon Lopez, Remi Álvarez, German Bringas, Dario Palermo, Alex Bruck, Vinnie Golia, Rodrigo Castellanos, Aaron With, Natalia Perez Turner, Ute Wasserman, Fernando Vigueras, Dario Bernal, Rogerio Bocato, Tatsuya Nakatani, Angela Villa, Sergio Bermudez, Diego Villaseñor, Angelica Sanchez, Ivan Manzanilla, Diego Espinoza, James Magee, Nicolas Caloia, Yoshihide Ōtomo, Omar Tamez, Warren Smith, Shanti Oyarsabal, Harvey Sorgen,  Benjamin Vergara.
His compositional and performative work concentrates on the realization of projects aiming transformative experiences, always inspired in Nature experience. Milo´s work draws from a multitude of lived living experiences and his ongoing creation-research practices spanning over 30 years of drumming aiming to transcend contemporary materialism and societal trends, cultivating innovative poetic rhythmic languages that elevate planetary vibration, creation and expression of Self.

As a natural-born educator and lifelong autodidact, he continuously expands beyond conventional boundaries, embodying the profound changes of our present world. With formal training in jazz, contemporary orchestral percussion, and root-origin drumming traditions, coupled with a fervent exploration of improvisation and interdisciplinary  practices, he has developed a rich multidimensional palette of  techniques and compositional frameworks.

Milo´s current focus examines the reciprocal relationships between the percussive body and its environment, studying the neuroscience of percussiveness and the qualities within creative compositional action and their evolution in individual and collective identity intertwined development.

Through this multilayered approach, rooted in diverse experiences and continuous discovery, he is to cultivate new paradigms of thought and higher states of percussive planetary expression.

Milo established APIL-PUBS in Mexico City as an independent publishing house dedicated to disseminating his scholarly works. This initiative has culminated in the publication of 13 titles, which collectively encapsulate three decades of developed methodologies and research in his specialization field of drumming and drumming education.

His  work-compositions are based on hybrid language and vocabularies integrating open scores involving investigative and structural improvisation, graphs interpretation, experimental approaches to materials, mixed traditional and contemporary notation works, sound poetry, scene–vision compositional works and his unique compositional  constellar system.

Milo´s current  projects in Mexico City are TALLER ABIERTO [procesos composicionales], Coming Home in collaboration with composer-philosopher-programmer Diego Villaseñor, PIDGINS in collaboration with Chicago spoken word and electronic artist Aaron With, La Batería Suspendida in collaboration with composer/instrument inventor Jerónimo Naranjo; and his solo percussive immersive works. He is on recording labels Albany Records, Amirani Records, Relative Pitch, Edgetone Records.
