BIO

Innovative interdisciplinary artist native from San Luis Potosí (Huasteco-Pame), based in Mexico City since 2017. Specializing in creating rhythmatologic experiences that foster compositional processes and living evolving personal growth.  As a life long percussivist practitioner and creative researcher performer, Milo´s interest is to guide individuals in awakening to new states of thought and sensory perception through percussive exploration and rhythm.
His compositional and performative work concentrates on the realization of projects aiming transformative experiences, always inspired in Nature experience.

Milo´s work draws from a multitude of lived living experiences and his ongoing creation-research practices spanning over 40 years of drumming aiming to transcend contemporary materialism and societal trends, cultivating innovative poetic rhythmic languages that elevate planetary vibration, creation and expression of Self.

As a natural-born educator and lifelong autodidact, he continuously expand beyond conventional boundaries, embodying the profound changes of our present world. With formal training in jazz, contemporary orchestral percussion, and root-origin drumming traditions, coupled with a fervent exploration of improvisation and interdisciplinary  practices, he has developed a rich multidimensional palette of languages, techniques, and compositional frameworks.

Milo´s current focus examines the reciprocal relationships between the percussive body and its environment, studying the neuroscience of percussiveness and the qualities within creative compositional play and their evolution in individual and collective identity development. Through this multiversal approach, rooted in diverse experiences and continuous searches, he is to cultivate new paradigms of thought and higher states of percussive planetary expression.

Throughout his career, he has had unique professional opportunities performing and collaborating with highly esteemed artists. His involvement in the arts extends to active collaborations, art and performance residencies, private teaching, workshops, composing, creating ensemble projects and regular appearances at contemporary music festivals and concert series.

Milo established APIL-PUBS in Mexico City as an independent publishing house dedicated to disseminating his scholarly works. This initiative has culminated in the publication of 13 titles, which collectively encapsulate three decades of developed methodologies and research in his specialization field of drumming and drumming education.

His  work-compositions are based on hybrid language and vocabularies integrating open scores involving investigative and structural improvisation, graphs interpretation, experimental approaches to materials, mixed traditional and contemporary notation, sound poetry, and constellation systems.

Milo´s current  projects in Mexico City are TALLER ABIERTO [procesos composicionales], Coming Home in collaboration with composer-philosopher Diego Villaseñor, Pidgins in collaboration with Chicago artist Aaron With, La Batería Suspendida in collaboration with composer/instrument inventor Jerónimo Naranjo; and his solo percussive immersive works.
